The following obituary was published in the Shelbyville Democrat on November 21, 1918: "The funeral of Mrs. Belle Hurtt, wife of James Hurtt, will be held at the graveside at Glenwood Cemetery at 2 o'clock this Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Hurtt were here from their home at Kokomo, Ind., on a visit when Mrs. Hurtt was taken sick from the influenza, from which she died at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. Before moving to Indiana they lived north of this city."
