Mr. Carter was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Church, Fairview Heights, IL. He was a graduate of University of Illinois with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired in 1991 from Union Electric, where he worked for 35 years in Cahokia, IL and later in St. Louis, MO. He was a Korean War Army veteran. Mr. Carter was a past volunteer fireman for Camp Jackson Fire Department, past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 6996, Fairview Heights, IL; past Faithful Navigator of Pope John Paul I Assembly, O'Fallon, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Merva J. Carter; father, Earnest Carter; brother, Gene Carter.
He is survived by his 1 son, Michael S. Carter of Fairview Heights, IL; 2 daughters, Robyn D. (Frank) Borawski of Fairview Heights, IL and Pamela S. Carter of Fairview Heights, IL; 5 grandchildren, Andrew, Bryan, Sara, Nicole and Kevin Borawski; his mother, Beulah, nee McCaw, Carter of Palmyra, MO; 1 brother, Merlyn (Sandra) Carter of Peoria, AZ; 2 sisters, Joann (Joseph) Punsifull of Louisiana, MO, Janet (William) Bair of Quincy, IL; dear uncle and great-uncle.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School Endowment Fund.
Visitation: /I Friends may call from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2000 at KASSLY MORTUARY, Fairview Heights, IL. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, followed by a Chalice Service and Honor Guard by the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Pope John Paul I Assembly.
Funeral: /I Funeral procession to leave at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2000 from Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Fairview Heights, IL, with Father James Jansen officiating. Interment will be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
