Brazil Woman Collapses from Heart Attack Probably Due to Heat and Fractures Skull
______________________

Mrs. Laura Belle Pullen, wife of Luther A. Pullen, of 105 1/2 west National avenue, was almost instantly killed about 9:15 o'clock last night when she collapsed and fell on the street near the corner of National avenue and Franklin street, fracturing her skull.

Mrs. Pullen with a friend, Miss Kneova Ryan, had walked down the street to an ice cream soda fountain and were on their way back to Mrs. Pullen's home, when she was suddenly stricken by what is believed to have been a heart attack probably due to the heat and fell on the street. As they were walking along Mrs. Pullen remarked to Miss Ryan that she was feeling dizzy and was going to fall. Miss Ryan reached out her arm to hold her when she collapsed and fell to the sidewalk, the back of her head striking the cement walk, fracturing the back of her skull.

Dr. T.M. Weaver, county coroner, was less than half a block away at the time and hurried to the stricken woman but the body appeared lifeless and failed to respond to efforts to revive her. Lawson & Son's ambulance was called and she was rushed to the Clay County hospital in the hope of reviving her but death had already occurred and the remains were taken to the Lawson funeral home to be prepared for burial.

Mrs. Pullen was 58 years, two months, and 24 days old. She was born in Pennsylvania but had spent most of her life in this city and was held in high esteem and affection by her many friends. She is survived by the husband, a son and daughter, Benjamin Cox and Mrs. John W. Brown, city; also four grandchildren and a sister and two brothers, Mrs. Rose Mershon and ben McCullough of this city and Art McCullough of Toledo, Ohio.

Laura was first married to Lafayette "Lafe" Cox. He died in 1906 and she later married Luther Pullen.

**Laura's actual birthdate is different from that indicated on her tombstone. She was enumerated as a 2 year old in the 1870 Clay, IN census with her parents and sisters Mary and Roseanne. Her birthdate of May 7, 1868 was taken from her father Miles' Civil War pension records.
