Don was raised on a farm in Nebraska and at 17 left home to travel where he became skilled in various trades. After serving in the army during World War II, he had desired to become a priest until he met the love of his life. He married Lois Louise Larson April 16th, 1947, in McCook Nebraska. He attended McSweeny trade school where he learned auto mechanics; he called himself a "doctor" of motors. He worked at International Harvester in Nebraska before they moved with their three children to Loveland, Colorado in 1955.
Don worked for ABC Coach, and then the Bureau of Reclamation where he retired in 1974. He could fix anything and had a smile for everyone he met. His greatest joys in life came from his faith, family, friends, and helping others. He was a proud Irishman who loved the outdoors and playing games with family and friends. The children could put a smile on his face no matter how he felt or what else was going on. He was a devoted Catholic, and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence Kennedy; sister, Florence (Leon) Flock; wife, Lois, of 52 years; and son, Warren James Kennedy.
Donald is survived by daughter, Carol (Dan) McCloud, son, David Kennedy, grandchildren, Dennis McCloud, Debbie (Josh) Braswell, Theresa (Clif) Wiggins, Nicole Kennedy, Mary (Shawn) Campbell, Christine (Nathan) Deaver, Michael McCloud, and eight great-grandchildren.
