Obituary - Mrs. Emma L. Thayer
Mrs. Emma Louise (Botnen) Thayer, 77, 2815 South D St. and Fox Island, died Sunday. She was born in Howard County, Iowa, and came to this area in 1922 from St. Paul, Minn.
She was a member of the Congregational Church.
Survivors include a son, Dan Botnen, of Tacoma; three daughters, Mrs. Loretta Brassoit and Mr. Florence Bassham, both of Tacoma, and Mrs. Betty Skidmore, of Gig Harbor; three brothers, Silas McManigle, of Vancouver, Wash., Dan McManigle of St. Paul, Minn., and Harry McManigle of Thief River Falls, Minn: 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Morely-Mellinger Furneral Home.

Emma was the 11th child of 14 children born to David Loman McManigle (b. 15 May 1853 Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, d. 27 May 1922 Colfax, Richland County, North Dakota) and Jane (Wells) McManigle (b. 2 April 1856 Brookville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, d. 17 September 1933 Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa) David and Jane are buried Beckwith Cemetery, Niles, Iowa.

Emma married 15 October 1912, first John Johan "Jack" Botnen (b. 31 May 1891, Sargent County, North Dakota, d. 25 Jun 1981 Federal Way, King County, Washington). Jack and Emma had 5 children;
Daniel J. Botnen (b. 26 September 1913 Breckenridge, Wilkin County, Minnesota, d. 18 Dec 1969 Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington)
Edith "Loretta" (Botnen) Carlson Brossoit (b. 14 April 1915 Breckenridge, Wilkin County, Minnesota, d. 1 August 2011 Youngtown, Maricopa County, Arizona)
Florence E. (Botnen) Dane Bassham (b. 28 Jan 1923 Washington, d. 26 May 2000 Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington)
Betty Jane Botnen (b. 2 April 1928 Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington, d. 6 July 1929 Seattle, King County, Washington)
