MELVERN-Bonnie Lorene Houston DeLano, 92, of Melvern, passed away December 5, 2011 at the Ottawa Retirement Village Nursing Home in Ottawa. She was born September 10, 1919, to William T. and Ruth Ann Perkins Houston in the Horseshoe Bend area on the Osage River, Camden County, Missouri.

Her family moved to the Wear Ranch near Beloit in Mitchell County, KS in 1921. She attended grade school in the one-room Wear School. The family moved to Lincoln, KS, in 1930 where she entered high school and then to Beverly, KS in 1934 where she graduated high school in 1937.

She was married to Pershing F. DeLano on August 6, 1937, in Salina.

In 1948, the family moved south of Melvern to the Charles Brown farm, and in 1950 to the 80 acre farm north of Melvern where she would call home for almost 50 years. She retired with her husband to Melvern in April 1999. Melvern Church of God was her church home where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a Child Care Provider for working parents and for many nieces and nephews, including a foster son. Many lives in the Melvern community have been touched by her tender, loving care and teachings.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Pershing F. DeLano; foster son John Robert Jones; sister Dorothy Claussen; three brothers, Phillip A., William C., and Aubrey.

She is survived by a son Fredrick D. DeLano (Shirley), Manhattan; Lynn Jones, wife of foster son John Robert Jones (deceased), Ottawa; sister Lydia Ann Donley, Sylvan Grove; four grandchildren David E. DeLano (Susan), Phoenix, AZ; Kalene M. Sanders (Timothy), Lawrence; Daniel R. DeLano (Elizabeth), Omaha, NE; Douglas E. DeLano (Tori) Colorado Springs, CO; three foster grandchildren Tammey Voigts (Mike), Ottawa; Connie Neilson (Ron), Scranton; and Trela Crawford, Ottawa.

She is also survived by 23 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Church of God in Melvern. Interment will be in Melvern Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 9, from 6:30 to 7:30pm at the Church of God.
