Shot above heart and through left hand - possible murder, but ruled a suicide by the coroner!

son of William J. and Martha (Jackson) Suggested edit: Sullivan Review
Dushore, PA
November 24, 1898
A. J. BOYLE [sic], aged about 24, was found in the woods about a mile and a half below Hillsgrove on Nov. 18th. He was lying as if asleep, his head resting on his arm. There was a bullet hole in his left hand and another just above the heart. It was clearly indicated suicide, and a coroner's jury returned a verdict to that effect. He was the son of William BOYLE of Hillsgrove.
Call me crazy, but when do suicides shoot themselves in the hand first before shooting themselves elsewhere, and then "...above the heart" !?
The wound to the hand suggests a defensive wound; that the shot went through his hand and wound up in the area above the heart. Of course, we don't have all the facts, but on the surface, this sure smacks to me as a murder.
