William Lee Cochran was a veteran, PVT 157 DEP BRIG WWl. William left for training camp, August 11, 1918, He died on a ship while on his way to France to fight for his country.

DIED AT SEA; BROUGHT HOME

William Lee Cochran was born Dec. 12, 1896; departed this life Oct. 6, 1918; age 21 years nine months and 24 days.

He died on the ship while on his way to France to fight for his country. Lee left for the training camp Aug. 11, 1918. He never reached the firing line, was never hit by a German bullet or wounded by a bayonet, but he has truly given his life for a just and glorious cause our country.

It is a sad sight to see one just entering into manhood to be called from the walks of men, but the Lord's will be done, not ours. Death is no respecter of persons it claims the old and the young, the rich and the poor. Lee has only paid the debt that we all have to pay one day, sooner or later.

Lee was a good, moral, sober, industrious boy always wanting to pay his debts and do what he thought was right. He was not a christian when he left here, but we hope that he looked to God in his last hours and made peace for his never dying soul, for we know that God was ready and willing to save and we know that the Bible says that man can be changed in the twinkling of an eye. Lee never knew a mother's love; his mother died when he was only a few days old and his grandparents raised him; he lived with them until his grandfather died, seven years ago, and" he made his home with his uncle, Shady Cochran, most of the" time
until he was called to the camps. His father died a few days after he left for the camps.

Lee oft times told his chums to be good to their mothers, that they did not know how to appreciate a mother and a home of their own until they had to give them up.

Lee had many friends, as could be told by the many floral offerings that were placed upon his last resting place.

We know that it is hard for relatives and friends to give Lee up, but they can only look to our blessed Lord for comfort in this dark hour of trouble.

Lee leaves one sister, some half- brothers and sisters and a step-mother besides other relatives and friends to mourn his untimely departure.

His remains were accompanied home by Private Andrew Hebington ,of Long Island, N. Y. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. T. Barker after which he was tenderly laid to rest in Patterson cemetery.

A precious one from us is gone, A voice we loved is still; A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled May God's richest blessings be with all of the grief-stricken ones. Mrs. Paralee Day
