Jennie Beam was born on June 16, 1879 in Middle Valley, Morris County, New Jersey, daughter and one of at least four children of Elijah Beam (1854-1924) and Elizabeth (Liddy) Biggs (1856-1896).

Jennie married William Taylor Maxwell in White House Station, Readington Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey on May 28, 1898. The marriage took place in the Dutch Reformed Church of Readington.

Jenny and William would go on to have 12 known children between 1899 and 1923. The children included Samuel, Beatrice, Lillian, Lawrence, Esther, Wyman, Frank, Evelyn, Janette, Bertha, Hazel and Joseph.

Jenny lived her entire life in New Jersey, in the three counties of Morris, Hunterdon and Hudson. Jennie became a widow on January 17, 1945 with the death of her husband William in Morris County. Jenny would carry on as a widow for nearly 15 years until her own death on July 12, 1960 in Bayonne, Hudson County, New Jersey. Jennie rejoined her husband when she was buried at Lower Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Califon, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.

One thing that is not clear is why Jennie relocated to the decidedly more urban Bayonne of Hudson County where she lived at 12 Margaret Street for her last 2 1/2 years, at least? And who was Mrs. Evelyn Reid who was living with Jennie at the end of Jennie's life? Was she a relative? Was it Evelyn who drew Jennie to Bayonne?
