Melvin's family; Melvin's father immigrated from Norway at the age of 17, and married Melvin's mother, Marie Gaarder, in 1912. They homesteaded in Westen North Dakota, where throughout the years Hans made a living by farming and raising dairy cattle. In later years they moved to Williston. In 1961 Hans passed away; three children preceded him in death, those surviving were: his wife Marie, at the Williston residence, sons, John Bratlien, farmer-trucker, Williston, who is married to the former alma Braaten, Melvin Bratlien, Buckingham, trucker, who is married to Ilene Page, fomer Zahl resident, Albert K. Bratlien, farmer-rancher, Zahl, who is married to Josephine Pederson, formerly of Williston. Daughters are Mrs. A.B. [Ann] Suttun, ranching and teaching, Twin Bridges, MT, Mrs. LaVerne [Helga] Smith, of Zahl, ranching and teaching, Mrs. Arnold [Thelma] Lund, Minot, Teachign and Westland Oil. Williston - Melvin H. Bratlien, 73 Cheyenne, Wyoming, formerly of Williston, died April 11, 1993, in a Cheyenne Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran church, with Burial in Hillside Memory Gardens, both of Williston.
Mr. Bratlien was born Sept. 24, 1919 near Zahl. He worked as a trucker for United Ringsby Trucking Co. in Harvey, Omaha, NE and Sioux City, IA.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene; two sons, Donald, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, and Dennis, Housten: two daughters, Marvel Krix, Cheyenne, and Jacquelynn Taylor, Egan, MN; two brothers, Joe, Williston, and Kenneth, Zahl; and three sisters, Ann Egge, Twin Bridges, MT, Helga Smith, Zahl, and Thelma Lund, Williston.
