Lydia Jane is the daughter of Loren Taylor Ray and Sarah E Holcomb. She married Andrew Johnson and they are the parents of Lamont, Mamie, Robert G, Irena C, Preston S, Ruby G, Lillie B and Charles S Johnson.

Her son, Lamont, was hospitalized in Morganton in 1916 and spent the next 20 years in care there. Her husband died in 1918 of the flu.
