George Allen Dies; Rites Set Saturday

ALEXANDRIA – George W. Allen, former Shreveport resident of 50 years, died Thursday in an Alexandria hospital.

Mr. Allen, a Mason and member of the American Legion post in Shreveport, was formerly a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Hixson Funeral Home with the Rev. Lon Tyndall officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with Order of the Eastern Star rites.

He was former member of the Caddo Parish Police Jury for three terms, active in the Order of the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Shreveport 40&8 Club.

Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. James Cobb of Alexandria; two brothers, E. L. Allen of Baton Rouge and Frank M. Allen of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Grace Adams of Tampa, Fla.; and one grandchild.
