Pennington Gap, VA Hilton T. Bonniwell, Sr. age 96 passed away Saturday, December 3, 2011 in the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. Mr. Bonniwell was born in Painter, VA,the son of the late Inez Hornsby and Will Bonniwell. He was a graduate of Central High School, Painter, VA and was a United States Army veteran of WWII. Hilton's occupations included, Hickman Lumber and Supply Comapny of Painter, VA, Texaco Oil Company of Onley, VA, Glen L. Martin Company and lastly the Baltimore County Board of Education in Maryland. He spent his retirement years in Pennington Gap for the last 31 years. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Pennington Gap and had served as the Treasurer of the United Methodist Men's Club for the last 30 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Madeline James Bonniwell, his second wife, Marie Smith Bonniwell, brother William Bonniwell and brothers in-law Ralph Smith, Jay Smith, and Voy Grabeel. Survivors include; His son, Hilton T. Bonniwell,Jr. and wife Kay of Pompano Beach, FL. His daughter, Connie Crumb and husband John of San Antonio, FL. Grandchildren; Barth Bonniwell and wife Denise of North Canton, Ohio, Hans Bonniwell and wife Sandra of Uniontown,Ohio, Kerry Helton and husband David of Knoxville, TN. and Edie Crumb of La Vergne, TN. Great grandchildren; Kailey Bonniwell, Amber Helton,and Stephen Green. Sisters in-law, Betty Smith, Betty Grabeel, Louise Smith all of Pennington Gap, VA, Annabell Piver of Naples, FL and Peggy Smith of Lake Worth, FL. Several nieces and nephews. Family will recieve friends on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 5 until 7:00 p.m. with services following with Rev. Roger Mathess officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Cecil-Fry Cemetery in Pennington Gap. Pallbearers will be members of the United Methodist Men's Club. Honarary pallbearers will be grandsons; Barth Bonniwell, Hans Bonniwell, Grand son in-law David Helton, and Larry Holbrook. In lieu of flowers family requests memorials to be made to the United Methodist Men's Club of the First United Methodist Church, 41880 East Morgan Avenue, Pennington Gap, VA 24277.
