NOTED ENGINEER TAKEN BY DEATH
Clifford Crowell, Purdue 1889, Expires in San Antonio, Texas – Owned Mines in Mexico
Mrs. Otto Meeun, of this city, received telegram Friday announcing the sudden death of Clifford Crowell, prominent Purdue alumnus and mining engineer, which occurred at San Antonio. Texas, Thursday night.
Mr. Crowell was born at Bluff Point, Ind., Oct. 13, 1868. He was graduated from Purdue university school of civil engineering, in 1889. Following graduation he engaged in mining engineering in Old Mexico where he owned interests in the vicinity of Monterey. From 1912 to 1916 he lived in West Lafayette with his family, and during that time bought the McCormick property west of Prude and built the residence which the family occupied. In 1916 he sold he sold the property to Charles Miller and moved with his family to Texas for residence, to be closer to his mining interests.
Since that time he had been occupied as a consulting engineer, with offices in the National Bank of Commerce, at San Antonio. Mr. Crowell was prominent in his profession and was also prominent in Purdue university circles, having served as president of the general Purdue Alumni association from 1912-1916.
He was married to Miss Florence Smith of West Lafayette, a Purdue '93 graduate, in 1896. She survives with the following children; Miss Florence Corwell, Purdue '19, teacher of Spanish in the San Antonio schools, Bert, Guilford, and Pauline Crowell. A daughter, Natalie, died in infancy. He is also survived by a brother, Leon Crowell, '94, Portland, Ind.
The funeral arrangements have not been completed.
