Civil War Union Army Soldier. During the threat caused by the Confederate invasion of Maryland in the September 1862 Antietam Campaign, he enlisted in the Independent Pennsylvania Cavalry Militia company commanded by Captain Wayne McVeagh, being mustered in as a Private on September 13, 1862. He served until discharged later on September 28, 1862.
