[The brother of my GG Grandfather John Lawrence Ashby born 1833 in KY.Their father was John L. Ashby of Virginia and their Mother was Sarah Jane Henry ( daughter of ?Henry and Lucy Shumate.- Deanna Added: Nov. 24, 2007]
John Lawrence (whom I believe is named for Lawrence Walker, father or brother, of Ann Walker)is why Deanna thinks John R is son of John L and Sarah Henry. But, because we have the lawsuit for E.R. We know John R. cannot be the son of John L. and Sarah Henry.ER in AR is the son of John L. (Lawrence?)Ashby, who is brother to our Enoch R-Sue Ashby

Robert Ashby and Nancy Walter were parents of Dr Enoch Robert Ashby.

1855 CORYELL COUNTY, TEXAS TAX ROLL No Ashby's
http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcoryel/1855tax.htm

1855 A minor Lawrence Co contempt of court charge for not showing in 1855 as a witness was most likely due to him (ER) being out of state headed to Texas but not there yet.

1858-E.R. moved 1858 from Union Co KY to Coryell Co Tx. He was old, with deep roots in Union Co KY when he moved to Tx acc/t newspaper articles in Coryell Co in a wagon with Delilah and children. He supposedly had 6,000 dollars in gold with him and when things got so bad in Tx with the mauraders after the Civil War, he took some of it and hid it in the fireplace in the house/took the rest of it along with a trusted slave and buried it under a tree/died before telling anyone how to find it. The slave was long gone. The money has supposedly never been found because he lived in 3 different places during his life.

His wife, Delilah Lila Kline Ashby, stayed behind in Union Co KY to be near her children living there.

1860-When he came to Texas he homesteaded 350 acres in Oglesby Station Creek. There is a hill in the Co. called Ashby Mt.
Dr. Enoch Robert Ashby, a resident of Texas, was wealthy and very active buying and selling real estate in Lawrence Co Ark. ER sold many properties there, including a 1857 sale of land to his sister-in-law's husband – William Barley Est. 1792 – 1859. Most likely JR had dumped all his land holdings in Arkansas by 1860.

ER Ashby is in Coryell with son Edward no wife no Henry
