Lloyd C. Barfus (1920 - 2011)

Lloyd C. Barfus passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2011 at the age of 91. He was born May, 16, 1920, to Fredrick and Emelia Christensen Barfus in Mink Creek, Idaho.

Lloyd married Zola Mae Christensen on Aug. 22, 1946. She died Feb. 22, 1981. He married MayDell Ward Wharton on June 29, 1982.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Lloyd was drafted into the Army during World War II. He was then transferred to the Air Force as a belly gunner because of his skill as a marksman.

In 1946 Lloyd went to work for his father-in-law on his ranch in Faust Valley, Utah. He then moved his family to Logan. He owned a janitorial service for many years. He went to work for the Cache County Sheriff's Office in the janitorial department and supervised the inmates in cleaning the jail. He was non-judgmental and the inmates would often seek him out to talk to him. He loved his time at the sheriff's office and only retired when his health declined at the age of 86 after 31 years of service. He told people after he retired that he was "out of jail now." He made many lifelong friends there. He enjoyed going to Angie's restaurant with his friends at the sheriff's office. He considered that the only place in Cache Valley to eat out.

He loved his family and worked very hard to support them. When his wife Zola Mae became sick with cancer, he bought a home on Hollow Road in Nibley so she could enjoy animals around her. They had sheep, chickens, ducks, quail, turkeys and deer. One of the turkeys they raised weighed in at 40 pounds.

He loved the outdoors and when he wasn't working, he was either hunting or fishing. He has hunted bear, elk, moose, deer and antelope. He loved to go for rides mostly scouting for deer and elk, and he could spot a deer or elk when others couldn't. The last six months of his life, even though he couldn't drive, he still loved to go for rides. He loved to go around Hyrum Dam to see the boats and then up Blacksmith Fork Canyon to scout for deer and elk and enjoy the scenery and then down Hollow Road to see his old house. It was a ride he never tired of even though he went every day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. He is survived by his wife, MayDell; children, Bryan (Alice) Barfus of Hyrum, Collin (Sheryl) Barfus of Hyrum, Vicki Barfus of Logan, Sindy (Tom) Munns Garland and David (Marla) Wharton of West Valley, and Lindell (Ruben) Guerrero of Pocatello, Idaho. He has 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with two on the way.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Allen-Hall Mortuary. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Tremonton Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net.
