Coretha was born September 9, 1923. She was one of eight children of Frank and Ella Adams Coody.
Coretha married Everett Price Roark and they had three sons, Everett Price Roark, Jr. Johnny Franklin Roark and Jerrold David Roark. In 1949, their family was at the Withalacoochee river enjoying the water in the hot weather of June.Everett, Sr. was swimming across the river with little Johnny on his back. Everett. Sr. had a heart attack and he and Johnny both drown before anyone realized and assisted them. Coretha was on the bank and seeing what happened.
Coretha married Bobby Louis Wisenbaker in 1956. Over the next few years, they had three sons. Bobby was a farmer. Coretha would cook lunch for the workers. She made you want to work for him so you could eat at her table. She made the best biscuits I ever ate.
On November 25, 1973 ,two of their children Jerrold David Roark and Alton Leon Wisenbaker were killed in an automobile accident. For the second time, Coretha had to face a double burial, two children at once.
After retiring from farming, Coretha became a sitter for the elderly. Her knees became very bad and she had to have knee replacement on both. One of them developed an infection and she never walked without assistance after that. Bobby and one of their sons who lived with them looked after her. In 2006, this son was involved in an accident and thrown from a truck and is now a quadraplegic. Bobby became unable to look after both of them and Coretha was placed in a nursing facility.
Bobby passed away in 2008. One of her sons is living in their home and caring for the quadraplegic brother.
There is no way to write this biography without telling of the hardships that Coretha went through. She gave birth to six sons and buried three of them and two husbands. She maintained enough strength to live 88 yrs. She was a true sister in my eyes.
