LaRue Waite, 95, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at Hinkson Assisted Living in St. Johns. She was born May 25, 1916, in St. Johns to James Maybin and Julia Anna Johnson Maybin.
LaRue worked in the St. Johns Post Office as a postal clerk for 22 years. She loved music and sang in many musical groups at church and in the community. She was a lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Young Women's, Relief Society and Primary organizations. She was also a ward music director and chorister. LaRue served in the Southwest Indian Mission and was a temple worker in the Mesa Temple.
She is survived by her sons: James E. (Ann) Waite of Mesa; Charles A. (Susan) Waite of St. Johns; Kennedy B. Waite of Mesa; Crawford G. (Laurel) Waite of St. Johns; daughter-in-law Beverly Waite, 26 grandkids, and 79 great-grandchildren.
LaRue was preceded in death by her husband, Gay Edward Waite, son Richard E. Waite, daughter Deanna LaRue Stall, daughter-in-law Carol Waite, granddaughters Nikki and Carla, five brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Downtown Chapel in St. Johns with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow services at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
