Robert Dean
Robert Arthur Dean, 84, of 410 Brown Avenue, formerly of Atlanta and Martin, died Sunday, May 22, at his home.
Born in Martin, Ga., he was a son of the late Arthur and Lucy Brown Dean and was married first to the late Margaret Hoff Dean and is survived by his second wife, Floride Smith Cox Dean. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia class of 1929 with a degree in civil engineering and was retired from Georgia Department of Public Health.
He was a veteran of World War II, served as a major in the U.S. Airforce, was a member of Belton First Baptist Church, Marshall Bible Class, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Legion Post 51 and a former member of Belton Lions Club.
Survivors besides his wife, include one daughter, Mrs. Mary Dean Oxford of Seneca, S.C.; one brother, Richard Dean of Martin; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Dean Terrell of Toccoa and Mrs. Sarah Dean Jones of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Cobb Oxford of Anderson, S.C., Cris and Margaret Oxford, both of Seneca, S.C. and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Martin Baptist Church with Dr. D.H. Daniels, the Revs. Terry Willson and Bruce League officiating. Pallbearers were Brown Dean, Tommy Williams, Pete Brown, Dic Yow, Tom Jones, Jr. and John Kennemur. Burial was in Stephens Memorial Gardens with Whitlock Mortuary of Toccoa in charge of local arrangements.
