Richard L. Carpenter, 92, of Union City, Ind., died Oct. 26, 2011, at the Union City Care Center.

He was born April 25, 1919, in Randolph County, Ind., son of the late Clifford and Bessie (Metzcar) Carpenter. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Dwight, Noel, Marvin and John Carpenter; and five sisters, Alberta Hoover, Floreice "Flo" Warner, Lenore Folkreth, Eunice Price and Margaret "Peg" Heaston.

He was an Anchor Hocking Glass supervisor for 31 years and a Randolph County councilman for 16 years.

A U.S. World War II Army veteran, he was a member of South Salem Church of Christ, Turpen Masonic Lodge #401, National Horseshoe Pitching Association and Barbershop Harmony Society.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Reichard Funeral Home Inc., 400 W. Deerfield Road, Union City, Ind., where a Masonic Lodge of Sorrow service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Matt Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Spartanburg Cemetery, Spartanburg, Ind., with military graveside services conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard. …
