Lt. Edward G. Longinette, DSN 1297, was originally hired as a "Civilian Switchboard Operator" for the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department on 05/28/1945 for the 5Th District on Penrose Ave. On 03/12/1946 he resigned from the department to enter into military service during the end of World War II. He was rehired on 02/03/1948 as a "Officer Clerk" for the 5Th District until he was commissioned on 07/18/1949, and entered the departments academy. After the academy he was assigned to the 5Th District as his first uniform assignment as a Police Officer. On 12/01/1950 he was once again called into the service for the Korean Conflict, and his rehire date after the war was on 02/05/1952 and was back in the 5Th district. His other assignments through out his career were the Secret Service Division, Bureau of Investigation, and then to the Vice-Narcotic's Division as a Sergeant for 2 years, and then to the 7Th District as a Sergeant as a "Line Platoon Supervisor" and then finally to the Field Inspection and Evaluation Unit at headquarters. While he was there he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant he held assignments at the 7Th, 9Th, and finally the 4Th District. During his career he was awarded 3 Letters on Honorable Mention. When he retired on 09/27/1987 he had 42.33 years of faithful and dedicated service to the police department. Lt. Longinette was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of Staff/Sergeant.
