Nathaniel's parents moved from Maryland to Ohio just before he was born. Hester Dunlap married Nathaniel about 1845 and they had 10 known children. At age 38 Nathaniel enlisted in Company B, Ohio 22nd Infantry Regiment on December 31, 1863. Died 18 Nov 1864 at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis.
Jefferson Barracks was used as a hospital during the Civil War. Nathaniel died of chronic diarrhea, as did many other soldiers. His youngest child, Mary Catherine Leatherwood was born in 1864 and it is likely that he never saw her.
Nathaniel is my first cousin 4 times removed.
