Edwin J. Brown, 85, Abilene, formerly of Gorham, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at Memorial Hospital, Abilene. He had lived in Village Manor Nursing Center, Abilene, for five years. He was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Walker to John J. and Elizabeth B. (Sander) Brown.

He married Leola M. "Lee" Phillips on March 6, 1943, in Baltimore, Md. She preceded him death March 4, 1994.

He worked in the oil fields for Sohio Oil Co., then was a plumber for many years in Russell and Ellis counties. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Gorham; a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6240, Russell, where he was past commander and past District 6 commander; and American Legion, Hays.

Survivors include four sons, Vaughn Brown and Brian Brown, both of Gladstone, Mo., John Mike Brown, Liberty, Mo., and Philip Brown, Waxahachie, Texas; a daughter, Marilyn Feldkamp, Manhattan; two sisters, Georgine O'Malley, Manhattan, and Marcella Thyfault, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker; burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Walker, with military honors by Russell VFW Post 6240. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Clines Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Ann Cemetery Fund or Masses.
