Death of Jabez C. Newhall. One of Conway's Most Prominent Residents Passes Away Sunday morning, Jabez C. Newhall of Conway died at his home after many months of weakness and failing health, age 77 years. Mr. Newhall was born in the house in which he died and lived there all his life. His father, Col. Jabez Newhall, was a framer, and also kept a tavern in the old days. After his father's death, Mr. Newhall devoted all his time to farming, and became one of the best know farmers, and having one of the finest farms in Conway.
In 1854, he married Miss Adeline Parsons, a daughter of Captain Parsons. They had four daughters and a son. One daughter died in infancy; of the others. Misses Eunice and Ruth are at home; another daughter is Mrs. Will Boyden of Chicago, and a son Harry, who carries on the farm in Conway. Mr. Newhall was a member of the Franklin Harvest Club, and of the Morning Sun Lodge of Masons, having been a charter member. He was the only honorary member of the local Grand Army Post, and when in health often enjoyed meeting with old soldiers. He was also a member of the Congregational Church. In all these organizations he was a genial friend and a faithful and kindly member, and will be greatly missed as a citizen of the town.
The funeral was held at the Congregational Church, Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Hunt conducting the service. A male quartette sang and there were many beautiful flowers from friends and organizations. All the organizations of which Mr. Newhall was a member were present in a body. The burial took place in the family lot in Pine Grove cemetery.
