The life of Nellie Raye began in Oklahoma on December 2, 1930. She was one of ten children in the family of William Henry Rowland and his wife, Nora Belle (Watts) Rowland. Nellie received education through the eighth grade in the local school.
In time Nellie met Eugene Bryant, who grew up in the Monroe County area. After a time of courtship they were married on November 30, 1947 at the home of Jessie & Lillie Peter in Connells Point. Just 2 days shy of her 17th birthday Nellie became a young bride ready to begin a life as a homemaker. She was blessed to raise three children.
As a farmer’s wife, she became a good cook and didn’t mind the hot and rough task of gardening. Each year as the vegetables were harvested she canned many jars to sustain the family through the next year. Nellie enjoyed playing Bingo, singing, and going to church. She was a member of the Cypert Church Of Christ.
Very precious times were spent with family and friends. Often when called upon, she served as a caregiver to others. In recent months life became a bit challenged and as a result, Nellie passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Crestpark Center in DeWitt. She was 86. May the joys and adventurous times experienced with others, bring much comfort to those who shared in her walk of life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son; William Eugene “Butch” Bryant, four brothers; Earl Rowland, Clifford Rowland, Dale Rowland, and Isham Rowland, three sisters; Mildred Corbit, Athie Williams, and Elsie Adkerson
Nellie is survived by her son: Jimmy Ray Bryant of Connells Point, a daughter; Judy Kaye Williams (Danny) of Dexter, MO, two sisters; Edna Faye Moore of Marvell and Juanita Cunnings of California, three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
