McFarland Funeral Set Thursday. Funeral services for Robert Emmett McFarland, 56, of 407 North Lancaster, father of Spanky McFarland, former child star of the "Our Gang" comedies, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lamar & Smith Funeral Chapel, 800 West Jefferson. The Rev. Bertram Smith, pastor of Christ Episcopal Church, will officiate. Cremation will follow. McFarland died in his office at the Sam Dysterbach Company Tuesday of a heart attack. He was credit manager there.

A native of Ennis, he moved to Dallas when he was three years old. From 1931 to 1944 McFarland lived in California as business manager for his son while the boy starred in both the "Our Gang" series and a dozen feature pictures. Spanky went to Hollywood at the age of three, after an aunt in Fort Worth sent his photograph to Producer Hal Roach. McFarland had served as credit manager for several Dallas firms. He was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Roderick McFarland and Thomas McFarland of Dallas and Spanky of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Mrs. Amanda King of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Glenn Lindberg of Tucson, Ariz., and three grandchildren. Dallas Morning News, May 15, 1958
