Mother: Maria Petra de OLIVAS
Father: Unknown

Page 82., SFB # 867. March 11, 1808.
OLIVA, Jose Gregorio, spanish, 3 days old,
"natural" son of Petra OLIVA. Father unknown. Grandparents names not given.
Godparents: Jose Eusevio Jacinto HERNANDES and Josefa Rosalia (?).
Father Arocha baptized the child, but did not sign the book.
--
Note: Maria Petra OLIVAS and Juan Antonio ESPARZA were still married March of 1808. Jose Gregorio OLIVA, baptized March 11, 1808 was the last child born to Maria Petra OLIVAS. It seems Juan Antonio ESPARSA, husband of Maria Petra OLIVAS, was not the father of Jose Gregorio OLIVAS "natural" son of Petra OLIVA.
--
Note: In the census for Bario del Norte of San Fernando de Bexar, when Gregorio ESPARZA lived with his mother Petra OLIVAS prior to Gregorio's marriage to Ana SALAZAR, Gregorio is listed with the surname ESPARZA not with OLIVAS, his brother Franciso is also listed with the surname ESPARZA, their mother as other women in the census use their maiden names for the census.
--
There are different published books written about Jose Gregorio ESPARZA who died at The Alamo on March 6, 1836 giving his year of birth as 1802. Because of the baptismal record dated March 11, 1808 found at San Fernando Church for Jose Gregorio OLIVA "natural son" of Maria Petra de OLIVAS, plus his age in the census for 1817, 1819, 1820, 1826, 1829 & 1831 recorded in the book RESIDENTS OF TEXAS, 1782-1836, The Institute of Texan Cultures, Volume II, I believe his baptism record in 1808 recorded at San Fernando Church is Gregorio's correct year of birth not 1802 as many researches have written. Living with his mother Maria Petra de Olivas between 1817-1826 and his wife Ana SALAZAR 1829 & 1831, Gregorio ESPARZA's age in the census and his year of birth would be between 1809-1813 not the year 1802.

Gregorio ESPARZA had four brothers baptized at San Fernando Church:
1. Antonio Tomas Sesario ESPARZA = born: Feb. 25, 1802 = died: May 6, 1802
2. Jose Maria Sesario ESPARZA = born: Feb. 25, 1802
3. Jose Francisco Nepomunceno Esparza = born: Mar. 26, 1804
4. Victor Filomeno Esparza = born: Jul y 3, 1806

Juan Nepomunceno Esparza = died: Dec. 28, 1803, age 2, (no baptismal was found at SFC).

Only two sons of Maria Petra de OLIVAS reached adulthood, Jose "Francisco" Nepomunceno Esparza & Jose "Gregorio" Esparza both found in the census with their mother from 1817-1826 living in Bario del Norte.

The following are the birth and burial records for brothers (twins) of Jose Gregorio Esparza, their names Antonio Tomas Sesario Esparza and Jose Maria Sesario Esparza born Feb. 25, 1802 both of whom I believe died before age 2.

legitimate son of Juan ESPARSA, and Petra de OLIVAS, of this city.
Godparents: Francisco de LEYVA & Jasinto BRISENO, both natives from the Villa of Saltillo.

I believe the burial record below is the burial for the above child Jose Maria Sesario Esparza, this child would have been age 1 year, 10 months and 3 days at death if he was born Feb. 25, 1802 died December 28, 1803.

There is no "baptismal" record at San Fernando Church for
Juan Nepomunceno ESPARZA who died Dec. 28, 1803
son of Juan ESPARZA & Maria Petra de OLIVAS.
