Geraldine McBride Leahy, 96, of Cedar Falls died Sunday, Nov 27, 2011 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, of natural causes.
She was born Sept 4, 1915 in Missouri Valley, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Genevieve Mullen McBride. She married J Robert Leahy on Dec 30, 1942 in Missouri Valley. He died July 20, 1984.
She attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught school in Urbana prior to marriage. She later farmed with her husband in Cedar Falls. She was a charter member of the Senior Shamrocks, a Eucharistic Minister, and served on the parish council.
Survived by: six daughters: Sr Patricia OP of Monona, WI; Rita (Michael) Sullivan of Neenah, WI; Eileen (Merlyn) McFee of Waterloo; Carla (Randy) Jones of Waterloo; Bernita (Rick) LaPage of Huxley; Phyllis (Jim) Paulson of Cedar Falls; four sons: Ken (Connie) of Marion; Dennis and Thomas of Cedar Falls; Harold (Kara) of Waterloo; 24 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a nephew, William (Marilyn) McBride of Cumming, GA; and numerous cousins.
Preceded in death by: a son, Alvan; a sister, Sr Marie Eugene OP; and a brother, Eugene.
Services: 10:30 Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 6:30 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for one hour before services Friday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
Geraldine was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, and great grandmother
who was graced by God in living her faith daily. She was generous, humble, loving, and an inspiration
to all who knew her. She will be forever missed.
