Thomas B. Luther, 73, Hollidaysburg, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Blair and Rita (Porta) Luther. He married Marlene J. Treese on Feb. 8, 1958, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
Surviving are his wife; three sons: Robert B., Paul T. and wife, Carolyn, and Lawrence W. Sr., all of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren: Michael J., Robert B. Jr., Marissa A., Joshua B. and Lawrence W. Luther Jr. and wife, Brittany; great-grandchildren; four brothers: Joel Gonsman of Blairsville, Robert Gonsman and William Luther, both of Duncansville, and Patrick Gonsman of Hollidaysburg; and two sisters: Helen Drawdy of New Brunswick, Ga., and Rita Walls of Blairsville.
Tom was a 1957 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Army and Army Reserve veteran. He retired as a supervisor from GPU Energy/Penelec, Huntingdon office, after 28 years of service, during which he was primarily a hot stick man. After his retirement, he was employed at Hollidaysburg Auto Parts.
Tom was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where he belonged to the Holy Name Society. He was a lifetime member of the Geeseytown Community Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed the love of his family, tending to the family orchard and taking care of his farm equipment.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg (www.pssfh.com), where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, Father Anthony J. Legarski officiating. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
