Rev Jeremiah was born in Rowan (now Guilford) NC. He was a farmer but received an education in ministry. His parents were Matthew A Cunningham and Elizabeth Galbreath. Jeremiah's parents married in Orange Co NC and lived in Guilford Co NC. His family later moved to Bedford TN, where they owned property and a business. He left TN and moved to Rusk Co Tx sometime around 1850, since he was on the 1850 Census for Rusk Co Tx. The 1860 and 1870 census showed Jeremiah and family in Navarro Co Tx. It was there that he founded and pastored a Presbyterian church. He was married to Mary Jane "Polly" Lynch b 1801 NC. Their children were: Caroline, Emily Higsby Cunningham, Ann Harrison Cunningham, Jane, Matthew Galbreath Cunningham, Jesse Lynch Cunningham, Mary, Joseph Kincaid Cunningham, Margaret Melissa Cunningham, and Adeline Burney Cunningham. I've just recently learned about the Cunningham Cemetery in Corsicana, TX, where I know Rev Cunningham is buried, along with his son Matthew and Matthew's wife, Nancy. There are probably many other Cunninghams buried there as well. I suspect that Rev Cunningham was instrumental in establishing the cemetery, since it's near the church. His funeral was at the Presbyterian church of Corsicana, where he was the founding Pastor. The church was established May 15, 1853.
