Louvina's mother is generally believed to be Spencer's first wife, Catherine Stuller, not his second wife, Rachael McCoy (maiden name unknown).

Spencer might have married Rachel between December 1842 and January 1843. Here's why:
Spencer Smith and Rachel McCoy were apparently married between 17 Dec 1842 when Rachel McCoy was received on certificate from Deer Creek Monthly Meeting of Quakers into membership of the Stillwater Monthly Meeting in Belmont County, Ohio and 21 Jan 1843 when Rachel McCoy Smith came before the Stillwater MM to acknowlege and apologize for her misconduct for marriage contrary to discipline. Two abstracts of minutes were listed on the Quaker-Roots list on the internet by Seth Hinshaw on 22 Apr 1998 as follows:
12-17-1842. Rachel McCoy rocf Deer Creek MM
1-21-1843. Rachel McCoy Smith con MCD

According to Seth Hinshaw, who is a clerk of a MM in Ohio in the present day (1998), the actual wording on the second entry would have been something like, "Rachel Smith (formerly McCoy) appeared in this meeting and produced an acknowledgement for her outgoing in marriage. After a time of deliberation her acknowledgement is received and she retained as member." "Con MCD" stands for "condemned for marriage contrary to discipline." This does not mean that the meeting condemned her but rather that she condemned herself.

Seth said Deer Creek MM (1736-1865) was located in Harford County, Maryland. This would fit with the legal notices regarding the combined estate of Spencer and Rachel Smith which were published in the Belmont Chronicle and abstracted in "Genealogical Records of Belmont County, volume II, which listed several McCoys as heirs.
