Buel Cone was born March 13, 1813 in Vermont. He lived in New York, Iowa, then Kansas. He married Marinda Morgan and they had a child named Hermon Elias Cone. His parents were Elias Coon and Eliza Starr.
There were quite a few COONs that changed their name to CONE. There were various reasons for this depending on the family. The family of Elias Coon/Cone and Eliza Starr can be found in records and books with the last name spelled both COON and CONE.
For example, Buel's father Elias, is listed as Elias Coon in probate and death records but listed as Elias Cone in the book, "Some Account of the Cone Family In America, Principally of the Descendants of Daniel Cone, Who Settled in Haddam, Connecticut, in 1662" he is listed as Elias Cone. Also, in the book, "Biographical History of Page County, Iowa" when the marriage of Hiram Larabee to Almira Cone is mentioned, the author actually mentions the family changed the name to Cone.
