Cpl. Adam J. Buyes, 21, of Salem, Ore., died Nov. 26 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan. "Cpl. Adam Buyes was a truly dedicated professional who cared for his Marines as if they were brothers from the beginning," said 1st Sgt. Daniel J. Wilson, the battalion first sergeant. "He was often emulated and adored by many of the Marines he came in contact with. Cpl. Buyes was just one of those Marines that made being in Okinawa, Japan or deployed to Afghanistan better and more enjoyable for everyone." He is survived by his mother and father Carla and Michael Buyes, his sister Rachel Buyes, his brother Anthony and his wife Joni Buyes, his brothers Joshua Buyes and Tyler Buyes, grandparents Murry and Carol Newton, Aunts Sonia Garcia, Terri Buyes, and Teressa Wilson, Uncles Pete Garcia, Denny Lowell, and Mike Lowell, Nephews Jaymin Dalton, Gabriel Swearingen, Jordan Rodriguez, Neice Arika Rodriguez, Cousins Tara Lopez, Cory Wilson, Dustin Buyes, and Felicia Garcia, and best friend Jerald Davenport.
