Was one of the youngest volunteers in the Northen Army.
When president Abraham Lincoln called for volunteers he joined Co. K, 60th Ohio Volunteers Infantry.
When time of the 60th expired he insisted in the Co. G, 13th West Virginia Infantry serving to the end of the war.
He participated in many battles, was in the of Windchester (Winchester), made memorable by the ride of Gen. Sheridan and the battles of Bull Run.
