SAMUEL JAMES HERRIAN, STRIP PIONEER, DIED SUNDAY
Funeral services were held from the Brown Funeral Home in Enid on Tuesday Afternoon and interment made in Waukomis cemetery. Many relatives from a distance and old friends attended.

Samuel James Herrian was born June 30, 1877, at Millard, Adair county, Missouri, and departed this life at his farm home near Bison on March 5, 1944, at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 5 days.
He moved with his parents from Missouri to Kansas in 1893, in the fall of that year, they moved to Oklahoma, and his father staked a claim southeast of Bison at the opening of the Cherokee Strip.
He was united in marriage to Ethel Susanna Mattocks at Enid, Okla., on August 8, 1908. Three children were born to their union, one son, Fred V., and two daughters, Eva and Gladys.
He joined the Methodist church in early childhood and remained a true Christian throughout his life. He was a loving and devoted father, a kind and loyal neighbor and always willing and ready to extend help to others.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel, of the home; a son, Fred V., of Bison, and two daughters, Mrs. Eva Page and Mrs. Gladys Hasbrook, of Douglas; five brothers, Oliver, of Longdale; Everett, of Morrison; John and Earl, of Bison; Fred, of Enid; two sisters, Mrs. Oatl Sperry, of Follett, Texas, and Mrs. Elsie Goodpasture, of Caldwell, Kans., and four grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Samuel James Herrian, a pioneer of the Cherokee Strip, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 5, at his farm home, southeast of Bison, at the age of 66.
