Rachel moved to Iowa quite some time before her husband-to-be George. Rachel is shown as the daughter of James Edgar in the 1850 census for District 13 (Richland Township had not been created yet), Wapello County, Iowa. In the 1856 State of Iowa Richland Township, Wapello County census George and Rachel are at home with their 1 year old son and George's mother Elizabeth. Rachel is shown as having lived in Iowa for ten years while the James Edgar household states they had been in Iowa 14 years. Either way that would have placed her here when Iowa was still a territory and was living here when Iowa became a state in 1846.

They married 22 March 1855 in Wapello County, and had 10 children, 3 girls and 7 boys.

I originally had Rachel as the daughter of James Edgar and Mary Caldwell. The following paragraph submitted by FAG member sunshinekutch(47854220) identifies an error in identifying her mother:
Rachel Edgar Forsyth was NOT the daughter of James Edgar and Mary Caldwell. She is the daughter of James Edgar and Mary Anne Stagg. There were 2 James Edgars in Iowa at the same time and same approximate age. One lived in Mahaska County and the other in Wapello County. Rachel belongs to the one in Wapello County. The James in Wapello County was married to Mary Anne Stagg on Mar 7, 1820 in Franklin County, OH. They resided in OH until about 1846. It appears that Mary Anne did not make the journey to Iowa. It took me a while to unravel the 2 James Edgars as many trees have combined them as one.
