Graveside services for long-time Hunt County resident Virginia Loraine Story, 91, of Opelika, Ala are at 11 a.m. today at Old Concord Cemetery in the Jacobia Community of Hunt County. Her son-in-law, Rev. James W. Clark of Nashville, Tenn., will officiate.
Mrs. Story died Sunday following a brief illness.
Born Christmas day, 1910, in Jacobia, she was the daughter of Samuel Thomas and Mattie McKenney Dodson. In 1930, she was married to J.W. Wilson. Following her husband’s retirement from the Army Air Corps, they moved to Greenville where they were members of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Story gave art lessons, taught elementary school in several East Texas communities and made and sold ceramics. She earned a master of library science degree at East Texas State University.
Mrs. Story served 10 years as head librarian at W. Walworth Harrison Public Library in Greenville where she was over the development of an extensive collection of genealogical materials; she retired in 1980. In 1998, Mrs. Story moved to Opelika, Ala.
Surviving are a son-in-law, James W. Clark; grandson Drew Clark and wife Miriam of Auburn, Ala.; granddaughter Lisa Smeallie and husband Peter of Silver Spring, Md. and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clement and Ira Dodson; her husband and a daughter.
