Dr. G. Edith Robinson, 76, of 102 Macon Avenue, Asheville, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital. Dr. Robinson was born April 28, 1923, in Peoria, IL. She was a daughter of the late James and Josephine Robinson and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Emma and James Langabeer. She was a 1943 graduate of Illinois State (Normal) University, majoring in science and math. She received her masters and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin Madison. Dr. Robinson taught high school math in central Illinois before becoming a professor at the University of Georgia (Athens). She later became a member of Educational Testing Service staff, with whom she continued writing tests until her death. She had also written several math texts. She was a member of New York Academy of Sciences, the Mathematical Association of America, North Carolina Council of Teachers, Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Fraternity, Kappa Mu Epsilon Mathematics Fraternity, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Presidents Club of Illinois State Foundation, where she sponsored a mathematics scholarship. Dr. Robinson was a member of the Royal Horticultural Society and the Puncheon Fork Yacht Club. She loved travel, gardening and mysteries of any kind. She had lived in Asheville since the mid-1980’s. Surviving are two brothers, James Robinson of Gainesville, GA and John Robinson of Peoria, IL; one sister-in-law, Ann Robinson; two nieces, two nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves a host of personal and professional friends who dearly loved her. Funeral services and burial will be held Thursday, April 13, in Fairbury, IL, under the direction of Duffy-Pils Funeral Home. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the local arrangements. A memorial service is scheduled for 7:00 pm Sunday in her gardens at 102 Macon Avenue. Memorials may be made to the Dr. G. Edith Robinson Math Scholarship Fund, in care of Alumni Office, Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois 61761.
