OBITUARY:
Clara Esten Cooke Kohlenberg,95, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2000.
She was born on May 13, 1905 in Clarendon, Texas to Agnes Cecelia Bushey and John Esten Cooke.
The family moved to Rockdale. Texas where her father was publisher of the Rockdale Reporter.
After graduation from Rockdale High School, she attended the College of Industrial Arts, known now as Texas Women's University. Ms. Kohlenberg received the highest honor in the Dramatic Arts department by being selected for the role of Juliet in the senior play, Romeo and Juliet. Upon completion of her degree in 1927, Clara and a fellow classmate toured Texas performing dramatic presentations to introduce Texas to the fine arts department of CIA.
On September 9, 1936, Clara Esten Cooke married Lee Meyer Kohlenberg in New Braunfels, Texas. They were both innovative and devoted educators, teaching many years in New Braunfels.
Mrs. Kohlenberg was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 1975. She is survived by her son, Lee Kohlenberg, Jr., her daughter, Lynn Kohlenberg Wohlfahrt and husband Douglas, and four grandsons Christopher Wohlfahrt and wife Rene, Jonathan Wohlfahrt, Matthew Wohlfahrt and Jason Wohlfahrt.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2000 at St. John's Episcopal Church in New Braunfels, Texas with interment to follow at Comal Cemetery.
