The photo shows Sammie with Ethel, his Dad, John Teague McCoy and his step-mother, Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" McCoy around 1914.
Sammie attended the Tupelo Military Institute ("TMI"). Proof of his attendance at TMI is in a letter and envelope from Sammie to my great-grandmother Sally, John Teague McCoy's second wife. The envelope is on TMI stationary and is stamped with the George Washington 1 cent stamp. My grandmother Ethel Presley also talked about Sammie attending TMI.
Sammie died while at St. Joseph's Hospital, Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. His cause of death was stated as sub arachnoid hemorrhage due to fall 10 weeks before his death. The death certificate also notes his birth was in Ecru, Mississippi.
While Ecru, MS was listed as place of birth, I know that his father's homeplace is in Cherry Creek, MS and most children were born at home during this era. It appears that Ecru, MS is interchangeable with Cherry Creek, MS.
