Janette A. Mathewson, 88, of 208 Spruce St., died at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 1969, in Canonsburg General Hospital where she had been a patient for the past several weeks.
She was born September 9, 1881, near Edinboro, Erie County, a daughter of Albert Morris and Alice Mills Mathewson.
Miss Mathewson attended the Silver Thorn Grade School in Erie County and was a 1908 graduate of Edinboro State College. She followed the teaching profession in Erie and Washington Counties for 18 years. Always deeply interested in the work of the church, Miss Mathewson joined the Franklin Center United Methodist Church, Erie County, at an early age, and retained her membership after leaving the community.
A resident of Canonsburg for the past 20 years, Miss Mathewson was an active member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Truth Student Sabbath School Class of the Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church.
Since moving to Canonsburg in 1946, Miss Mathewson has made her home with her brother, C. A. Mathewson, retired Superintendent of Schools in Canonsburg Borough, and his son, William.
Surviving in addition to her brother are one sister, Mrs. J. H. Phillips, of Morrison, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
One brother, F. W. Mathewson, is deceased.
