AMITY, Mo. Lela M. Steiner, 103, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at a health care center in Maysville, Mo.

Lela was born Aug. 3, 1900 in Andrew County, Mo. at Union Star.

In 1925, she married Wilmer J. Steiner. They farmed together for many years with Lela having an active roll in the operation.

Mrs. Steiner was a member and Sunday school teacher at the Orchid Christian Church, she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society, the Orchid Home Makers Club and helped organize the Fighting 4-H Club, all of Union Star.

Mrs. Steiner was preceded in death by her parents, John R. and Ida (Heath) Whetsell; her husband, Wilmer J.; a son, Ermal J. Steiner; two brothers, William and Charles Whetsell; a sister, Elizabeth Selix; and a son-in-law, Norman Walker.

Survivors: a daughter, Chalene Walker, Prescott Valley, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Norma Steiner, Amity; a nephew, Franklin Steiner, Prescott Valley; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Monday, Orchid Christian Church, east of Union Star. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo. Visitation: the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the Gibson Funeral Home, King City, Mo. Memorials: The Orchid Christian Church Building Fund of The Show-me Missouri Christian Home, in care of Gibson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 552, King City, 64463.
