He married Margaret Kathryn Roth on December 18, 1941 in Santa Monica, and from this union came Duane David (1949-2009), Val Ray (1953-1996) and Katherine Elinor Carpenter.
Ray left the Santa Cruz Police Department on Oct. 30 1942 and enlisted in the US Army during WW II. At the end of the war Raymond was sergeant. He was working again in the Police Dep't in 1945 from which he retired in June 1969.
