He was the son of the late Earl and Mary Alice Allen.
He was owner of Allen's Florist in Chase City, a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as pianist, a member of Halifax Saddle Club and Chase City Bowling League. He also served on the board of the Chase City Chamber of Commerce and the Mecklenburg County YMCA.
Surviving are his brother, Gerald Allen, of California, sisters, Wanda Crump and husband, Baxter, of Lynchburg, and Ellie Davis and husband, Mark of Greenville, N.C., nieces, Bridget Crump and Holly Sava and husband, Tudor, great nephews, Sean and Hunter.
A funeral was held Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
