Mattie Costella Reiner, age 98, formerly of Oroville, California, passed away on May 18, 2009, in Woodland, California. Mattie was born September 26, 1910, in Powell, Texas, the first child of Oscar and Rosa (Davis) Fade, and was raised in Texas and Oklahoma.
Mattie has lived in Woodland for the past year. Previously she lived in Oroville for nearly 35 years where she and her late husband, Donald, retired after he completed his service in the Air Force to be close to the family she loved. She was married to Don for 51 years, during which time they lived and traveled in Bermuda, Texas, Japan, England, France, Montana, and California. After Donald passed away she married William Reiner and they shared five years of their later lives together until William passed away in 2007.
Mattie's family and her strong faith in God was the focal point of her life. She was an active member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deaconess for several years.
She is preceded in death by her husband's, Howard Jackson, Donald Costella and William Reiner; her daughter, Wanda Boyett; an infant son, Billy Kay Jackson; her granddaughter, Jacqueline Eichler; and five of her younger siblings.
She leaves two grandchildren, Kathy Terry of Orland, CA, and Marc Boyett of Oroville, CA; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Brooks of Blair, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Scheer Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 28, 2009, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., with a Memorial Service on Friday, May 29, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2350 Foothill Blvd, Oroville, CA.
A reception at the church will follow the service. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions in Mattie's memory to the Trinity Presbyterian Church memorial fund or a favorite charity.
