Discouraged over his deafness and continued ill health, William Leroy Baker, aged 71 years, a Civil War veteran and respected resident of the Town of Danby, committed suicide this morning by hanging himself.


Mr. Baker left the house early to go to his barn. Medical assistance was summoned but life was found to be extinct. Coroner Smith was notified and was expected to investigate the circumstances this afternoon.


Mr. Baker was a member of the Twenty-first New York Cavalry and served several years in the Civil War. He was a member of the G.A.R. post at Candor. He is survived by his widow; one daughter - Mrs. L.A. Fuller, Danby; one brother - Aaron Baker, Brookton; one sister - Mrs. Lydia Whitley, Brookton.


The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the residence, Rev. B.F. Tobey officiating. Interment will be in the Curtis Cemetery.
