Nyle Jane Terry passed away around 7 PM on Tuesday, 11-22-11. She was born on 9-14-28, in Detroit, Michigan, but had the opportunity to live in many places, Detroit, Buffalo, and Cleveland. Upon high school graduation, she left home for Durham, North Carolina where she attended Duke University and graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors majoring in Spanish and Russian. She met and married Howard Chester Terry who was also attending Duke at the time. She will be buried with Howard, who fought behind the enemy lines in China during WWII, at the VA cemetery in Houston. Howard and Nyle were married 48 years until Howard passed away in 1998. In 1950, they moved to Houston, Texas – "the new little city of the south" which Nyle affectionately called Houston and soon bought a small house in Oak Forest where she lived for over 60 years ( she and Howard were "original home owners" in the neighborhood ). Nyle had wonderful friends in the neighborhood who helped each other with raising the kids ( that was quite a challenge ), the support of loving husbands, cooking, sewing, riding bikes, helping with the business, and being moms ( one of the highest callings in the world ).
Nyle is survived by one son and daughter-in-law – Stan & Chris Terry and ; 5 grandchildren - Ashley and Andrew Terry ( Clark's daughter and son ) and Matthew, Elizabeth, and Laura ( Stan & Chris' children ). Nyle's cat, "kitty cat" was a God send and meant the world to her in the last few years. Kitty Cat and her other cat, Tika were constant companions and helped her through each day. Here are few things Nyle really enjoyed – peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, pop tarts, Blue Bell mint chocolate chip ice cream bars, doing word search puzzles, jig saw puzzles, and coloring in her "picture books" (She always commented how much fun they were and how they were the best gifts possible)all day long, going to church, singing, dancing, laughing and smiling. She always commented how much fun they were and how they were the best gifts possible. Simple things in life made her happy. Nyle was an amazing, Godly woman beloved by everyone who knew her.
An informal gathering will be held at Pat Foley funeral home on 34th from 1 to 4 PM on Saturday, November 26th. Nyle will be buried at the VA Cemetery on Thursday, December 1st at 11 AM. A simple memorial service will be held at the VA Cemetery pavilion.
