John R. "Jack" Tragon, 78, Box 623, Altoona RD 2, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, after a brief illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Nicholas and Eleanor (Ryan) Tragon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel L. Tragon. He formerly was married to Annabelle (Rock) Gehret of Duncansville, who survives.
Surviving are his longtime friend and companion, Dolores Matzik; a daughter, Linda G. Mascia of Conestoga; a son, R. Tim Tragon and wife, Janet, of Altoona; granddaughter, Julie L. Mascia of Conestoga; grandsons: Tyson R. and Thad R. Tragon of Altoona; a sister, Constance Rigolo and husband, August, of Seminole, Fla.; along with great-grandchildren: Danielle, Angela and Matthew Kozlowski of Conestoga.
Jack was a licensed real estate broker for 34 years, having been employed with John Hill Real Estate for many years. He was owner and broker of Century 21 Real Estate and later retired in 1996 from Jack Tragon Real Estate Inc. He was a 1946 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a member of the National Association of Realtors, Blair County Chamber of Commerce, Blair County Builders Association and lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society.
Jack enjoyed bowling, woodworking and spending time with his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather and a friend to many, who always went out of his way to help others.
Mr. Tragon was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Anthony P. Scaglione Funeral Home, 1908 Seventh Ave., Altoona.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 511 20th St., Altoona, by Monsignor Stanley B. Carson.
Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
