Gerald S. Hatch, age 86, died peacefully at his home on February 5, 2011. He was born May 10, 1924, in Logan, Utah to Hezekiah James and LaPrele Straw Hatch.
While attending Utah State University, he met his life-long sweetheart, Barbara Moss. His education at USU was interrupted to serve in the US Army Engineering Section, 815th Aviation Engineer Battalion, in Italy during World War II. Upon his return Gerald and Barbara were married on September 2, 1947. Gerald completed his education at USU where he received his BS in Civil Engineering in 1948.
Gerald and Barbara moved to Chicago where Gerald pursued graduate studies in architecture and design at the Illinois Institute of Technology. His career took him to Los Angeles then back to Utah to continue in his profession in design, engineering and management. In his later years he worked as a private investor.
Gerald enjoyed refurbishing and racing cars, hunting, skiing, golfing, and photography. His civic involvements include membership in the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and USU Alumni.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bill Hatch, and an infant son, H.G. Hatch. Surviving are his wife, Barbara, three daughters, Janet (Paul) Eastman, Jane Ann Bitton, and Sydney (Kelly) King, twelve grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
